ZLO came out of Helsinki's metal scene in the mid-1980s with a raw, aggressive take on death metal. Their early material like "Beibel On Paha" had a blunt, confrontational quality that stood out even in a genre built on extremity.
Their lyrics often dealt with dark themes that got them into trouble in some places.
Sakari Saarinen, Mika Hakala, and Markus Myllykangas have been the consistent core since the beginning, with Myllykangas taking a break from drums in the mid-'90s before returning. They put out a DVD called "Metallimylly" in 2007, and songs like "Eutanaasia" and "Macho Pask" show they never softened their approach.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
