Zmoky formed in Mexico City around 2005 with Miguel "Miki" Beltran on vocals, Sergio Contreras on guitar, Roberto "Beto" Scalante on bass, and Fernando "Fer" Andrade on drums. Their name means "smoke" in Polish. They released their debut album in 2007, also called "14 de Febrero." The title track, a ballad about heartbreak on Valentine's Day, became their biggest hit.
Their music pulled from pop, rock, and alternative styles, with mentions of influences like The Smiths, Depeche Mode, and Cafe Tacuba. The debut album included other songs like "Nervioso" and "No Me Importa." They put out two more albums, "Golpe de Suerte" in 2011 and "La Noche Eterna" in 2015, and toured in Latin America and North America.
In 2009, Beltran was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. A few years later, in 2012, the band faced plagiarism accusations over their song "El Sendero," which they denied. The same four members have stayed with the group.
