Zmusique formed in 2003 and spent their early years playing local clubs, working out a sound that mixed Brazilian rhythms with hip-hop and reggae. Their 2005 album 'Toda Maneira' changed things, with the title track becoming a hit that brought them national attention.
Their lyrics often dealt with social issues like racism and inequality, which earned them both supporters and critics. In 2010, lead singer Bruno Dourado was arrested for drug possession, an event that put the band's future in question. They regrouped and released another album in 2012.
The band's lineup includes Bruno Dourado on vocals, Ricardo Ramos on guitar, Sérgio Gonçalves on bass, André Taveira on drums, and Gabriel Moura on keyboards. They've put out several albums since their debut, including 'Assim Como Sou' in 2007 and 'Raízes' in 2021.
