Archive material and source history
Zoah formed in California in the early 2000s with Emily Zoah on vocals and guitar, Michael Gillett on drums, Ryan Teague on bass, and Elysia LeSage on keyboards. They put out their first album, Stargazer, in 2003, followed by Celestial Embers in 2006 and Interstellar in 2010. Their sound leaned into spacey textures and what some called cosmic rock.
Their 2014 album, also titled California, included the song 'California' and became their most commercially successful release. Another track from around that time, 'Let Loose,' also got some attention. The band kept recording, putting out Beyond the Black Hole in 2018.
They built a following through touring and independent releases, playing live shows with an atmospheric, sometimes interstellar vibe. Their music attracted listeners drawn to ethereal melodies and lyrics that touched on cosmic themes.
