Zolá Duarte formed in Salvador, Bahia in 2006 around vocalist and songwriter Zolá Duarte, bassist Ícaro Moreno, and drummer Felipe Guedes. Their debut album came out in 2010, featuring the ballad 'Não Peça Desculpa' which became their breakout single. The band's sound draws from samba, rock, and Afro-Brazilian rhythms.
Zolá Duarte's lyrics often touch on social and political themes, which has drawn both praise and criticism over time. She has been vocal about issues like racism and inequality in Brazil. The band followed their debut with albums like 'Abre o Olho' in 2013, 'Vem Que Tem' in 2016, and 'Seu Tempo' in 2019.
Moreno and Guedes have remained core members through lineup changes. The group has worked with artists including Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, and Caetano Veloso. Other songs in their catalog include 'Cachaça Boa,' 'Amiga João,' and 'Beijo Inesquecível.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
