Zona 43 formed as a quartet in São Paulo in the early 2000s, with Ivo on vocals, Pretto on guitar, Rudy on bass, and Gustavo on drums. Their music mixed samba, funk, and hip-hop, a combination that caught on in Brazil. In 2003, their single "Aonde Errei" became a breakout hit, pushing them to national attention.
They've released nine studio albums, starting with "Não É Só Samba" in 2002 and including self-titled records in 2005 and 2008. Other songs like "Aonde Está Você," "Chorar Ou Sofrer," and "Puro Acaso" show their range within that Brazilian urban blend. Some critics have questioned whether their later work kept the raw feel of their early recordings, but they've kept making music that pulls from traditional rhythms and modern sounds.
The band has stayed active with releases through the 2010s, like "Intimidade" in 2016 and "Zona 43 na Estrada" in 2018. Their lineup has remained consistent with the original four members.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
