Zona de Risco formed in Porto Alegre in 1982, originally called Vulcão. The founding members were vocalist Wagner Carvalho and guitarists Bebeto Godoy and Marcelo Brum. They changed their name to Zona de Risco the following year, which translates to Danger Zone. The band's early sound was raw and energetic, with lyrics that often touched on provocative themes.
Their debut album came out in 1985 and included the song 'Agência 157,' which became a radio hit. The track's lyrics about a fictional secret agency connected with listeners during a period of political tension in Brazil. Another notable song from their catalog is 'Mercenários.' The band released several more albums through the late 1980s and 1990s, including Vivendo no Limite and Batendo na Porta do Céu.
Wagner Carvalho was the only constant member through various lineup changes over time. Other musicians who played with the band included guitarist Edgard Scandurra and drummer Luciano Alves. Zona de Risco's live shows were known for their intensity, and they maintained a following in Brazilian rock circles.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
