Zona Proibida formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1984. They built a following playing underground venues and on pirate radio stations, with local authorities reportedly objecting to their lyrics and performances.
Their debut album came out in 1986, and the track 'O Caminho Das Pedras' became a hit. The band faced legal issues and had concerts canceled after drawing criticism from conservative groups for their lyrics about social issues.
They released several more albums through the 1980s and early 1990s, including 'Ilegal' in 1988 and 'Sob o Signo do Caos' in 1990. The original lineup included Tony Bahia on vocals, Jerry Adriani on guitar, Paulinho Magrão on bass, and Wilson Galvão on drums.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
