Zona Tribal formed in Salvador, Bahia in the early 1990s, with Carlinhos Brown as their frontman. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1995, mixing samba, reggae, and African rhythms. They followed it with records like 'Tambores do Mundo' in 1997 and 'Ritmo Primitivo' in 2000.
Songs like 'Aldeia Global' and 'Ritual' show their blend of Brazilian styles with a percussive drive. The band's lineup has included Roberto Barreto on percussion, Gilson Silva on bass, and vocalists Magno Santana and Ju Moraes alongside Brown.
In 2010, Zona Tribal was involved in a legal dispute over the unauthorized use of 'Aldeia Global' in a political campaign. Their music often carries social messages, and they've performed internationally, but they remain rooted in Bahia's sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
