Zonna De Atitudde came out of Rio de Janeiro in the early 2000s, led by MC Sapão and MC Menor do Chapa. Their breakout single "Esperando Tudo Se Resolver" caught on with its mix of funk carioca beats and street-level energy. The song became a sensation and put them at the front of Brazilian popular music for a while.
Their music often drew criticism for explicit language and depictions of violence. MC Menor do Chapa was arrested in 2008 for drug possession, and MC Sapão faced charges of inciting violence through lyrics. These incidents complicated their public image.
DJ Perera handled the beats. Their sound brought favela realities to a wider Brazilian audience.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
