Zoo Loko formed in São Paulo in 1992, with Dinho Ouro Preto on vocals, Bidu on guitar, Pitty on bass, and Pretinho on drums. Their debut album came out in 1994, simply called 'Zoo Loko.' The song 'ABC do Rock' became their most recognizable track, a straightforward rock anthem that caught on with listeners.
They put out several more albums through the 1990s and 2000s, including 'Por que a Gente É Assim?' in 1996 and 'Astronauta' in 1999. Their lyrics sometimes touched on social themes, which drew some criticism at the time. Other songs, like 'Abecedario Do Zoo Loko' and 'Tem Que Ter Uma Esperança,' showed their range within a rock format.
Zoo Loko built a reputation for energetic live shows. While their music wasn't for everyone, they developed a loyal following in Brazil's rock scene during that period.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
