Zoot formed in Brisbane in 1973, coming together after some members had played in The Aztecs. They had Rick Springfield on vocals, Beeb Birtles on bass, Rick Formosa on guitar, Russell Morris on drums, and Les Hall on saxophone. Their first single was 'Be Mine.'
In 1978 they released '1 x 2 x 3 x 4,' which became their biggest hit in Australia. They put out albums like 'Zoot Out' and 'One for the Road,' and were known for their live shows. Springfield left in 1983 to go solo, and Birtles took over singing.
Later in the 1980s they made an album called 'Times of Our Lives.' In the 1990s they got back together for some tours and recorded 'The Waiting.' Their songs include 'Eleanor Rigby,' 'Evil Child,' and 'Hey Pinky.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
