Zoot Woman formed in London in the late 1990s with Adam Blake on vocals and guitar, Stuart Price on keyboards and programming, and Johnny Blake on guitar and bass. Their first album, "Living in a Magazine," came out in 1999 and included the track "Grey Day." They followed it with self-titled and "Things Are What They Used to Be" albums in 2003 and 2009.
Their music has a particular electronic quality that draws from techno and house, but with guitar work that gives it a different texture. Songs like "Losing Sight" and "We Won't Break" show their knack for atmospheric arrangements that feel both synthetic and human.
After leaving Virgin Records around 2009, they kept making records on their own terms, putting out "Absence" in 2017 and "Modern Addiction" in 2020. They've never been a mainstream act, but they've maintained a steady output for listeners who like their particular blend of electronic and rock elements.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
