Zuber formed in Salvador, Bahia in the early 2000s, taking their name from a local fishermen's community. The band was led by vocalist Muzenza and included Pedro Pondé on guitar, Felipe Guedes on bass, and João Meirelles on drums. Their sound mixed Afrobeat, reggae, and hip-hop.
In 2005, their debut album "Chame Gente" included the track "Pra Nada," which became popular among Brazilian youth. They followed with albums like "O Mundo Tá Girando" in 2007, "Coração Cigano" in 2011, and "O Nosso Mundo" in 2015. Muzenza's lyrics often addressed social issues, which sometimes drew criticism from officials and conservative groups.
Zuber collaborated with artists including Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and As Sublimes. They released six studio albums total before their activity slowed. Their music blended traditional Brazilian rhythms with contemporary styles.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
