Zuhal Olcay started as a theater actress in Istanbul before releasing her debut album 'Sensiz Olmaz' in 1985. Her music often dealt with difficult subjects, like the domestic violence addressed in her 1993 song 'Kimse Bilmez'.
She worked with musicians including guitarist Erdem Sökmen and drummer Oktay Yaman in her band. Songs like 'Adım Kadın' and 'Ben Varım' show her tendency to write about gender and social issues.
Olcay released more than twenty albums between 1985 and 2006, with titles like 'Ölürüm Sana', 'Gözümün Bebeği', and 'Bir Roman Gibi'. Her straightforward approach to lyrics sometimes drew criticism from conservative listeners.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
