Zuid West Posse formed in 1989 in The Hague's Transvaal neighborhood, with Kees de Koning, DJ Michael van der Lugt, and Marcel Hoogenboom making up the core group. They started putting out their own music when mainstream radio wasn't interested in what they were doing. Their 1992 track 'Carrière Zuigers' became something of an anthem locally, though its direct look at drug use and life in the city drew some criticism at the time.
They released albums like 'Trip naar het Oosten' in 1990 and 'Terug naar de Basis' in 1996. Other songs include 'De intro of Rocko' and 'De intro van 10-o'. The group's straightforward approach to hip-hop, rooted in their own neighborhood, connected with a lot of young people in The Hague during the early 1990s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
