Zullubaba formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1990s with Sergio Cury on vocals and guitar, Robson Morais on bass, and Paulo César on drums. Their debut album 'Atrás do Trio' came out in 2002, with the title track becoming a hit. They followed it with albums like 'Diga o Que Pensa' in 2004 and 'Quem Não Arrisca Não Petisca' in 2006.
In 2007, Cury left and was replaced by singer-guitarist Nego Black. The band kept going with songs like 'Na Levada' and 'Tempero Mineiro' in their set. They released a live album in 2008 and returned with 'Transformação' in 2022.
Alongside Morais, César, and Black, the lineup includes Felipe Bastos on keyboard and Bruno Gagliardi on percussion. Their music pulls from samba, funk, rock, and hip-hop, but they've mostly avoided the grand claims that sometimes follow Brazilian bands. They just kept making records.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
