Zuluzão formed in Rio de Janeiro during the 1970s, taking their name from a phrase meaning "Big Zulu" that nodded to African influences in Brazilian culture. Their lineup included Luiz Melodia, Jorge Mautner, Paulinho da Costa, and Jorge Helder.
They released albums like "O Trem das Onze" in 1976 and "Royal Salute" in 1979. The title track "Royal Salute" became particularly well-known among Brazilian youth. Another song, "Temporada de Caça," featured WinniT.
The band broke up for a period in the early 1980s, reportedly due to financial pressures. They had a sound that pulled from samba, funk, and rock, though they weren't the only group doing that at the time.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
