Zumbi Tatuado formed in Porto Alegre, Brazil, with a lineup that included vocalist André "DZ" Cândido, guitarist Guilherme "Billy" Biello, bassist Tiago "Big" Tamboril, and drummer Rafael "Rafa" Machado. Their name references Zumbi dos Palmares, the historical figure who led resistance against slavery in colonial Brazil.
They've put out four studio albums, starting with "Deixando a Escória para Trás" in 2001 and most recently "Cemitério Eterno" in 2020. The song "A Procura de Um Lar" from their 2004 album connected with listeners, particularly around themes of homelessness. Other tracks like "Apenas Crianças" and "Eu Quero Rock" show their range within heavy rock.
The band has been involved in community outreach alongside their music, maintaining a focus on social justice that aligns with the historical reference in their name.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
