Zweimal das Gleiche

Zweimal das Gleiche formed in Hamburg in 1994 as a trio of DJs Jan Driver and Steve Peter with sound engineer Michael Franke. Their name translates to "Twice the Same," and they worked without an MC, which was unusual for dance acts at the time. Their debut single "3 DJs and no MC" came out in 1995 and became a hit across Europe.

They followed with albums like "Melodies of Love" in 1996 and "Positive Energy" in 1997. Their tracks often mixed techno, house, and trance with straightforward melodic hooks. Songs like "Alleine" and "Das letzte Wort" kept to that approach.

In 1998 they faced a copyright lawsuit over a sample in "3 DJs and no MC," which was settled out of court. They did some work with other German electronic acts like DJ Sammy and Dance 2 Trance around that period.

After the late 1990s they became less active, but their early records still turn up in DJ sets and playlists. The basic idea, three people making club tracks without a frontperson, stuck as their identifier.
