Zy Band

Zy Band came up in the late 1990s, an underground rock group that built a following with a raw, atmospheric sound. Their second album, 'Foul Deeds,' came out in 2002 and got them wider attention. The title track, a slow, moody piece, stirred up some talk about occult themes, which the band brushed off, but it didn't hurt the song's reach.

The lineup included Xander Hayes on vocals, Ethan Thorne on guitar, Anya Petrova on bass, and David 'D.J.' Jones on drums. Thorne handled much of the songwriting, crafting the band's textured backdrops, while Hayes delivered lyrics that leaned into dark, emotional territory. They put out a few other albums like 'Whispers from the Abyss' and 'Echoes of a Dying World,' which kept to that shadowy, introspective style.

For a stretch in the 2000s, they were one of those acts that could polarize a room just by playing that song.
