Archive material and source history
Zyyg formed in Japan in the late 1980s with Akira Takasaki on guitar, Kazumi Watanabe on vocals, Masayoshi Yamashita on bass, and Hiroshi Arimura on drums. Their debut single 'Aishita Kedo...' came out in 1989 and became a hit. Watanabe left the band in 1991, and Akihito Tokunaga took over as vocalist.
They kept recording through the 1990s. Some of their other songs include 'Julia,' 'Kimi ga hoshikute tamaranai,' and 'Saisho de Saigo (no Love Song).' Their sound mixed pop and rock, with some later work touching on funk and electronic elements.
In 1998, Takasaki released a solo album that included a song some interpreted as a criticism of Watanabe's departure, which caused a brief public disagreement between the two. The band's activity slowed after that period.
