Jesus encarnou e se fez homem
não somente
para poder efetuar
a nossa redenção
como também
para se tornar
o modelo
da nossa santificação.
Ele viveu neste mundo
num corpo igual ao nosso
e era em tudo
semelhante a nós,
exceto no que tange ao pecado.
E Ele estava sujeito
às mesmas provações
a que estamos sujeitos,
e às mesmas aspirações,
mas todo o uso
que Ele fez de Sua mente
e de Seus desejos
foi exclusivamente
para obedecer ao Pai,
perfeitamente.
Ele negou-se a si mesmo
em todas as situações
para fazer não a Sua
mas a vontade do Pai,
de maneira que se diz
que Ele aprendeu a obediência
por tudo que sofreu (Hb 5.8).
E foi para este propósito
de nos revelar o modo
como os homens
devem viver para Deus,
que Ele se santificou a Si mesmo,
não no sentido
de se purificar do pecado
porque não tinha pecado,
mas em fazer somente
a vontade de Deus.
E se submeteu totalmente
à direção do Espírito Santo,
para que pudéssemos
ser santificados
em conformidade
com este modelo
que Ele fixou para nós
conforme era da vontade de Deus
desde antes
da criação do mundo.
Então é olhando e buscando
aquilo que se encontra nEle
e que nos é revelado na Palavra,
que devemos basear
a nossa santificação.
A santidade é portanto
esta conformidade com Jesus
em tudo.
