3dob formed in Los Angeles in 2004, with Efrain "EF" Rios, Jimi "Dolla" Jimenez, and Pedro "Pete" Najera making up the original lineup. They put out their debut EP, also called "12:04am," in 2013, which included the single of the same name. That track, along with others like "Duso's Dead" and "Hope Ticks On," helped define their early sound.
Their music pulls from hip-hop, R&B, and Latin styles, a mix that carried through later albums such as "El Tormento," "Loco de Amor," and "El Senor de la Noche." The writing tends to be handled collaboratively between the three members, with EF often on vocals. Songs like "Theres Nothing Better (for A Good Time Than Lies And Depression)" and "Mrs. Berman" show the kind of introspective, sometimes darkly titled material they gravitate toward.
In 2015, the group faced some public scrutiny over plagiarism claims related to a song called "Baby Girl," which they denied. They kept recording after that, but the episode was a noticeable bump. Their catalog has been used in some films and television, which broadened their reach a bit beyond the core listeners who found them through tracks like "Jones Soda" or "Show And Tell Hell."
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
