A Permanent Shadow formed in the early 2000s, with Ethan Silvan on vocals, David Ashworth on guitar, Sarah Carter on bass, and James Blackwood on drums. Their first album, Ashes to Ashes, came out in 2005 and set a moody, atmospheric tone that stuck with them.
They put out In Requiem in 2008, then Breakthrough in 2012. The title track from that album, "Breakthrough," got some attention. Other songs like "Shining Star" and "Humdrum" show up in their setlists. They followed with Ethereal in 2015.
Their sound pulls from gothic rock and post-punk, with some electronic touches. It's not exactly cheerful stuff, but it has its own space. They've kept at it without much fuss about changing direction or chasing trends.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
