Abrogation formed in Hannover in 1995, started by vocalist Moritz Neun and guitarist Martin Gutzeit. They put out their first album 'Abgrund' in 1998, followed by 'Totenreich' in 2001 and 'Harlekin' in 2005. Neun's lyrics often dealt with dark themes, which sometimes drew criticism. The band's songs like 'Der Berg Sie Ruft' and 'Sarggeburt' featured heavy riffs and abrasive vocals that became their sound.
Bassist Stefan Weber and drummer Sebastian Müller played in the band at different points, though Neun and Gutzeit stayed at the center. Abrogation broke up in 2010, after which the members worked on other projects. Their music drew from industrial acts and philosophical ideas, but avoided mainstream polish.
