Mas los tiempos van cambiando
y avanza la humanidad
y, aunque los inventos nuevos
allí tardan en llegar,
un buen día el Sr. Alcalde
al venir de la ciudad
habló en el Ayuntamiento
de la nueva novedad.
- No lo diga, Secretario
ni usted. Sr. Concejal
que cuando deba saberlo
todo el pueblo lo sabrá.
El Alcalde al día siguiente
era un hombre popular.
Todo el mundo lo sabía
y lo fue a felicitar.
El pueblo, por fin, tendría,
como cualquier capital,
un televisor de marca
con pantalla y con radar.
El pueblo se preparaba
al acto trascendental.
Un señor muy importante
lo vendría a inaugurar.
Cuando, por fin, llegó el día
todos fueron a esperar
al señor y al aparato
a la plaza principal.
Allí en un entarimado
ante el clamor popular
se encontraban el Alcalde,
la alcaldesa y el barbero,
el cura y el secretario,
la comisión, el maestro
el boticario, el conserje...
Los pocos que allí no estaban:
(quince y el tonto del pueblo),
con las mujeres y niños
estaban bajo aplaudiendo.
El primero fue el Alcalde
y luego, hablaron el resto
y hubo que llevarse al tonto
porque aplaudía a destiempo.
Cuando vino el importante
ya todo estaba perfecto,
todo estaba ya ensayado,
en hablar fue él el primero.
Luego, repitió el Alcalde,
los demás lo hicieron luego
mientras todos aplaudían
donde debían hacerlo.
Y, después, el importante
tirando de un trapo negro
lo inauguró al descubrirlo
y darle al botón de en medio.
Al ver el bello aparato
un murmullo surcó el cielo,
luego, todo fue suspense:
Aquello estaba muy negro.
-¡Se ve el pueblo!, dijo el tonto.
-¡Calla, que eso es el reflejo!
-¡Es que "tié" que calentarse...
dijo a la gente el barbero.
Una marcha, poco a poco,
el silencio fue rompiendo.
Y salieron unas rejas
y todo el pueblo aplaudiendo.
La gente, maravillada
ante aquel tan grande invento
estuvo como dos horas
viendo rejas de progreso.
