Birds And Bees

the birds used to nest

in that hole in your chest

when you'd sleep in the leaves and the hay

laying still as a stone

a boy dreaming alone

must have been a very sweet place to stay

and here on our bed

it is none but my head

that finds home in this heart beating burrow

the birds came and went

now my love pays the rent

for a heart that is dead, fast and thorough

the orange trees are in heat

and the summer air is good enough to eat
