Archive material and source history

Autopilot Off formed in Los Angeles with Chris Carrabba on vocals and guitar, Sammi Doll on bass and vocals, and Ryan Hernandez on drums. They released their debut album 'Make a Sound' in 1999, which included the song of the same name that would become one of their most recognizable tracks. The band followed it with 'Grave' in 2001 and 'The Grey' in 2003.

In 2000, Autopilot Off faced a lawsuit from the band The Calling, who claimed 'Make a Sound' borrowed from their song 'Wherever You Will Go.' The case settled out of court. Carrabba left the group in 2005 to work on solo material, which changed the band's direction. They put out one more album, 'Back to Basics,' that same year.

Their music had a straightforward rock energy with songs like 'What I Want' and 'Clockwork' showing their lean toward melodic alternative sounds. The lineup and the lawsuit are part of what people remember about them, along with those early 2000s records.
