I'm an ignorant Englishman, travelling through Germany

And I don't speak the language: Excuse me, can you help me?

Wow that's amazing, your English is great

And makes me feel even more ignorant

I'm sorry about the stuff at home with the referendum

It wasn't my decision, just the majority of my countrymen

And the feeling back at home now is one of regret

You know they didn't even give that money to the NHS

I spent two weeks in Germany travelling on the trains

Playing gigs in places with complicated names

I fell in love with the country almost overnight

In a strange hotel in Quedlinburg with the window open wide

And did you know that Germany's not actually called Germany?

It's called Deutschland, Germany's just what other countries call it

And that's a funny thing to get your head around

I mean imagine if you was called Steve and everybody else called you John

I know there's a language barrier but really come on

We should be building bridges but instead we're building walls

And what was once the Euro tunnel will soon be border patrol

You should try to visit places that you've never been before

Talk to different people, experience different culture
