Big Dumb Face formed in Chicago in 1984 with Kevlar Kendall on vocals, guitarist Dragonaut, bassist Gorilla, and drummer Urchin. Their debut album 'Kali Is the Sweethog' came out in 1987, with the title track becoming something of a cult favorite. The band's sound mixed punk, noise rock, and industrial into something abrasive and hard to categorize.
Their live shows were known for being raucous, and Kendall had a confrontational stage presence. The lyrics on songs like 'Duke Lion' and 'Blood Red Head' were unconventional enough that some critics accused the band of promoting violence and misogyny. Big Dumb Face dismissed those accusations, saying they were just reflecting darker realities.
