Björn Afzelius

Björn Afzelius was a Swedish singer-songwriter who started in the early 1970s with the band Hootenanny Singers. Their debut album was called 'Sånger Om Vägen.' He later worked on his own material, writing songs that often dealt with social and political themes. One of his best-known tracks is 'Absolut Solar Plexus,' which became something of an anthem in Sweden.

In 1983, his song 'Svarta Rosor' drew criticism from conservative groups for its stance on the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. Other songs like 'Amerika' and 'Sång till friheten' reflected his interest in broader political questions, while 'Nära Dej' and 'Älska Mej Nu' leaned more toward personal relationships.

Afzelius recorded steadily through the decades, putting out albums like 'Tusen Bitar' in 1979, 'Absolut Solar Plexus' in 1982, and 'En Dag I År' in 1996. He often worked with musicians like Micke Rickfors on guitar and Stefan Sundström on bass. He died in 1999 at age 52.
