The band that defined hardcore's abrasive edge with records like Damaged and My War.
For the band's confrontational energy, 'DRINKING AND DRIVING' still hits hard. 'Three Nights' captures that alienation they wrote about.
Black Flag's sound was raw and abrasive, with lyrics that dealt with war, alienation, and personal turmoil. Songs like 'DRINKING AND DRIVING' carried that confrontational energy. Their live shows were known for being chaotic, and in 1986 they were arrested after a show in Milwaukee.
Black Flag formed in Los Angeles in 1976 with Keith Morris on vocals, Greg Ginn on guitar, Chuck Dukowski on bass, and Brian Migdol on drums. Ginn stayed with the band through all its lineup changes, which included Henry Rollins joining as vocalist and Robo on drums at different points. They put out records like Damaged in 1981 and My War in 1984 before breaking up in 1986.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
