En zo gleed het rustig praatje bij het rustig kopje thee
En hij praatte over vroeger
En zij praatte rustig mee
Over die en over deze
Pruimenmondje, lieve stem
Zo: "O ja?" "Ach kom?" "Hoe aardig!"
Maar alleen niet over hem
Is ze het nu heus vergeten
Of... omdat ze maar wat plaagt...
Waarom wil zij niet meer weten
Wat toch elke vrouw behaagt
's Zondagsavonds zat hij peinzend
Op pantoffels in z'n stoel
Met een pijp, die niet bleef branden
En een katterig gevoel

Maar hij neuriede toch zachtjes
Met een tikkeltje... verdriet:
