Dat gaf je elkaar in de dagen
Toen 't meisje het haar nog niet opsteken mocht
En 't jog nog een pofbroek moest dragen;
Een handjevol bloemen... een kleur als een roos
En 't ging nog zo stijf... zo onhandig
En toch... als de pa of de meester het wist
Het leek... nee, het was haast losbandig
Het meisje werd ouder, zijn kuitbroek werd lang
Zij groeiden van binnen naar buiten
En zij kon tenslotte, veel eerder dan hij
Tot liefde voor 't leven besluiten;
"En 't leven", sprak moeder, "is droom noch gedicht
Dat moet je verstandig bekijken
En hoe en wanneer of zo'n jongen iets wordt
Och kind, dat moet alles nog blijken!"
Zij trouwde dus met een meneer met een baan
Toen 't joggie nog groen liep in Leiden
Een sluier, boeketten en zilver en goud
Een meisje om echt te benijden
En 't meisje werd vrouw en Mevrouw en nog meer
Een vrouw met positie en plichten
Met dure attenties... met byouterie
Maar zonder goedkope gedichten
Ze groeide, gedijde en zette zich uit
Tot Proza en tot Mevrouw Jansen
En dat, wat ze voelde voor flut-poezie
Dat bleek als ze 's avonds ging dansen
Een handjevol bloemen, een strik, een gedicht
Dat is ze volkomen vergeten
En dat met die pofbroek, he jasses!, he foei!
Dat wil ze voor niemand meer weten
