Celedonio Flores

Celedonio Flores was a tango lyricist and composer from Buenos Aires, born in 1896. He wrote songs that spoke to working-class life in the city, with lyrics that felt raw and direct. In the 1920s, he began collaborating with bandoneon player Pedro Maffia, and their partnership helped bring his words to a wider audience.

One of his most lasting songs is 'A Lo Mejor Quién Te Dice' from 1927. It's a tango about unrequited love that has been covered many times since. Other songs like 'Atenti pebeta' and 'Bigotito' show his knack for capturing everyday scenes and characters in his lyrics.

Flores wrote during a period when tango was evolving from dance music into something more poetic. His work helped shape that shift, though his personal life was reportedly difficult. He kept writing through the 1930s, with songs like 'Mano a Mano' and 'Uno' appearing in that decade.
