En vooral de drukke straten mijden!"
De Prins, nou ja, hij vat de kneep
Hij kent het klappen van de zweep
En dat is voor 'n koetsier geen schade
Maar ziet, het boze toeval wil
Hij houdt z'n rijtuig eensklaps stil
Voor 'n oploop op de Nassaukade
'n Vechtpartij, 'n dronken man
Maakt dat hij niet passeren kan
En zeker uit nieuwsgierigheid
Gebruikt hij nu z'n vrije tijd
Om door 't gebroken ruit te loeren
Wat toch z'n volk wel uit mag voeren
Hij ziet niet veel, maar wat-ie hoort
Doet schrikken hem... hij kijkt verstoord...
Hij hoort dat met 'n zwak geluid
De ouwe zegt: "Ik sterf... schei uit..."
En van de vrouw klinkt 't gesmoord:
"Je drukt me dood... ik steek de moord..."
"Wat", roept de Prins, "wel godverdomme
Daar zal 'k nou toch er 's tussen komme"
En met 'n sprong is hij op straat
Rukt aan 't portier en schreeuwt dan kwaad:
"Ben jelui beflikkerd?
Zeg mooie juf... zeg ouwe pikkert
Je mot met mij geen lol uithalen
Betaal jullie eerst me lood
As d'ouwe sterft en hij drukt jou dood
Wie zou me dan de rit betalen...?"
