O, Neerlands roem, gij dreigt te tanen
Het schrikbeeld dat ons angstig maakt
Is, dat thans alom door Javanen
Om wissewasjes wordt gestaakt
Het rode plantje schiet zijn wortels
De stengel schiet steeds hoger op...
Voordat de bloemen gaan ontluiken...

Ik heb over zovele dingen
Deez' bundel in elkaar gezet
Toch durf ik frank en vrij te zingen
Ondanks die lieden braaf en net
Die graag hun domperszin doen blijken
En roepen: "Jacobs, pas toch op!"
