Archive material and source history
Elway formed in Los Angeles in the early 2000s around vocalist and guitarist Stefan Smith, with bassist Andrew Rill and drummer Michael Ward. They took their name from Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway. Their debut album 'Great Lakes' came out in 2006, followed by 'The Partisan' in 2009.
The band's sound had a quiet, atmospheric quality that felt more like indie folk than anything else.
After a hiatus around 2010, they released 'The Wilderness' in 2014. What remains are those early songs that still find listeners who connect with their particular mood.
