Shades Of Grey

The memory burns in my mind, the question of existence

The fear that comes with mortality, the fear we can't defeat

Death casts a dark shadow, how easily we forget

Killing time and all eternity, we somehow live to regret

Disinterest, contempt, and inertia, the mechanics of extinction

The scars that mark our conflicts increase with our attrition

They say there's strength in numbers

But unfortunately we can't count

We all drink the poison that seethes in our veins

Apathy is the solution

Existing where hope is lost

The hands of all that hate us

Composing our holocaust

Preparing for tomorrow's ruin

Slowly the balance decays

From my space in time, i can see the end

A shadow, among shades of grey

The desire has exceeded the means

The means have exceeded the reason

Linked by ignorance, nothing is sacred

The chain of mediocrity has begun

The sands fall through our fingers

Yet we don't close our hands

In a spectrum so broad, all we see is grey

Our technology has surpassed our humanity

As the futility of life prevails

Do we begin the draw to our end?

Answer the question, question the answer

All that's left to say, is better left unsaid

The virus becomes our curse, consuming the final hope

The corpses of an era descend upon obscure

Forgotten, forsaken, fallen from grace

When did we surrender?
