Fishead began as Sam Beam's solo project around 2001, eventually becoming a band with guitarist Dan Mangan, bassist Matt Hebert, and drummer Matt Altruda. Their debut album 'Believe' came out in 2004, and its title track gave them some mainstream attention. The song 'Walking To The Light' also appeared among their early material.
Their second album 'Tonight' arrived in 2006, showing a shift toward more polished and experimental territory. That same year, Hebert left and was replaced by Bryan McKinney. By 2008, they'd put out 'The Outlaw Album,' which incorporated some country and folk elements.
Beam's struggles with heroin addiction became public during this period, and the band's lyrics often dealt with addiction and mental health themes. Altruda departed in 2012, with Ryan Murphy taking over on drums. Fishead's catalog includes songs like 'Breathing For Help' and 'Fighting For Freedom,' which reflect those darker, introspective concerns.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
