Flatcat formed in 2011 with Elise Coevert, Matt Johnson, and Matt Pynn. Their debut album 'Between the Lines' came out with a mix of rock and folk sounds. They followed it with records like 'In Your Own Sweet Time' and 'Young'.
One of their best-known songs is 'Beautiful in Venice,' which came from the band's time in that city. Other tracks like 'Better Luck Next Time' and 'Butterface' show their range. In 2014 they dealt with a legal fight over their music rights, but kept going.
They've been vocal about social justice at times, which has drawn some attention. The compilation 'The Essential Flatcat' collects their work.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
