Françoiz Breut began releasing music in the late 1970s with a sound that didn't fit neatly into categories. Her debut album 'Vingt-quatre Heures' came out in 1986 and drew attention for its experimental approach, though some critics found its themes too dark.

Her songs like 'Si Tu Disais' and 'Après La Nuit' have a particular quality - minimal arrangements, cryptic lyrics, and vocals that feel both intimate and distant. She worked with musicians including Alain Bashung on guitar, Jean-Marc Vivenza on drums, and Dominique Grimaldi on bass.

Breut's early influences included surrealist poetry and punk rock, which might explain why her music feels both literary and raw. She kept making records through the 1990s, with 'Une Saison Volée' arriving in 1990 containing 'Si Tu Disais'.
