als müßte er auf das von mit gedachte
sein schweigen nun zum ersten male brechen
er sagt: wir sind es lange zeit schon müde
für eure eitelkeiten herzuhalten
die niederlagen wandeln wir zu siegen
und trotzdem sind wir traurige gestalten
um eure eig`nen schwächen zu vergessen
erbaut ihr uns aus eisen und aus steinen
wir spiegeln euren hochmut in der sonne
und wenn es regnet, sieht uns niemand weinen
ein denkmal ist ein denkmal ist ein denkmal
doch statt dem denken dienen wir den glauben
die einzigen, die uns gerecht behandeln
sind hunde, liebespaare oder tauben
die hunde wässern uns`re fundamente
die liebespaare wärmen uns`re stufen
die tauben aber segnen uns von oben
als wären wir zu höherem brufen
