Geraldo Magela was a Brazilian group that formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1960s. They were led by Hilton Chaves, who was joined by his brother Waldir and friend Roberto Wilson. Their debut album came out in 1963, simply called 'Geraldo Magela,' and it included the song 'Aquele rapaz.'
'Aquele rapaz' became a major hit for them, and it's the track most people still know. They had other songs like 'Ataque epiléptico' and 'Rap da Roça' in their catalog, working in a mix of samba and bossa nova styles. The band was active through the 1960s before disbanding around 1969.
They reunited in the 1980s and put out more albums, including 'Retrato de um Samba' in 1980 and 'Som de Amor' in 1988. Over time, different musicians passed through the group, with names like Roberto Menescal and Wanda Sá appearing on their records.
