Gilbert O'Sullivan was born Raymond Edward O'Sullivan in Waterford, Ireland in 1946. He moved to London in the late 1960s and signed with MAM Records, releasing his debut album 'Himself' in 1971. That album contained 'Alone Again (Naturally),' a song that became an international hit with its straightforward melody and plain-spoken lyrics about loneliness.
His follow-up albums 'Back to Front' in 1972 and 'I'm a Writer, Not a Fighter' in 1973 included songs like 'Get Down' that maintained his particular style of melodic pop. O'Sullivan had legal disputes with his record label in the mid-1970s that led to a break from recording, but he returned with albums like 'Off Centre' in 1980 and 'In the Key of G' in 1987.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
