Glasvegas formed in Glasgow in 2003 as a quartet with James Allan on vocals and guitar, his cousin Rab Allan on lead guitar, Paul Donoghue on bass, and Jonna Löfgren on drums. Their debut album 'Glasvegas' came out in 2008 and reached number two on the UK charts. The song 'Daddy's Gone' from that record became a particularly resonant piece about loss.
Their sound has a post-punk feel with big, echoing vocals that can turn a simple melody into something much larger. Songs like 'Go Square Go!' and 'Ice Cream Van' show how they build atmosphere around straightforward rock structures. They've released four albums, including 'Euphoric /// Heartbreak \\\\' in 2010 and 'Godspeed' in 2018.
Löfgren left the band in 2011, and their 2013 album 'Later... When the TV Turns to Static' got a mixed reception. The core trio of James Allan, Rab Allan, and Paul Donoghue has kept working since then, sticking with their particular brand of Scottish indie rock.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
