Ik ben in 1954 geboren, in de mooie stad Almelo. Ik werd zeven dagen te
vroeg geboren. Dat vonden mijn ouders niet erg. Stel dat ik zeven dagen te
laat was geboren; die eerste week is juist zo leuk en die hadden ze dan
moeten missen
Volgens mijn moeder was het een pittige bevalling en zoals zo vaak
gebeurt, perste ze er eerst een flinke keutel uit
"Daar hoeft u zich helemaal niet voor te schamen, hoor", zei de
vroedvrouw, "Dat hoort allemaal bij een bevalling". En ze legde de keutel
op de buik van mijn moeder
Toen even later ikzelf ter wereld kwam, maakte ik een zodanige indruk op
mijn vader dat hij geemotioneerd raakte en begon te huilen
Iedereen in de kamer werd stil
En mijn vader bracht snikkend te berde
"Nu weet ik zeker dat ik twee kinderen wil!"
Ik was thuis de derde
Tot vreugde van de pastoor bleef ons gezin niet beperkt tot drie kinderen.
Volgens goed katholiek gebruik deden mijn ouders aan periodieke onthouding
Mijn vader schreef op het laatste geboortekaartje
Met uitzichtloze vreugde geven wij kennis
Van de geboorte van ons twaalfde kind
Het is een jongen en wij willen hem
Voor nog geen (f 1.000,-) f 650,- missen
