Who Will Set Me Free?

I don't understand what I do

For what I want to I don't do

But what I hate I do

I have desire to do what is good

But I can't carry it out.

For what I do is not the good I want

But the evil I hate, this I keep on doing.

For in my inner being

I delight in God's law

But I see another law in me

Waging war against my mind

...and making me a prisoner of sin

What a wretched man I am!

Who will rescue me

from this body

of death?

Only He gives me freedom

Only He gives me strength

Only He gives me life

Makes my darkness fade away

He is the way!
