I went down to the hardware store

Had a young boy help me load a 4x4

I ask him about his life

Why you workin’ all these dateless nights

And he said: Working hard just to earn a buck

Sweatin’ every summer but I'm savin’ up

There’s a truck I need to buy

And a girl that needs a ride

I just smile and said

I drove away and thought

Of chasin’ girls around with a fake ID

On Friday nights he'll get thrown out of Center Street

Because Saturdays he’s up in a tree
